Kalu and the Electric Joint seamlessly integrate the elements of psychedelic soul music with the energetic rhythms of rock and roll alongside the traditional rhythms of Africa.  

This distinctive afro psych musical synthesis arises from the collaboration between frontman Kalu James, an emigrant from Nigeria at eighteen, and guitarist Jonathan "JT" Holt, who contributes an American soul influence that enriches Kalu's West African heritage.  

Their 2017 album, "Time Undone" (sPaceflight records), represents a sonic achievement featuring original compositions that convey positive messages and compelling rhythms. The group's most recent album, "Garden of Eden" (2023), explores various manifestations of disruption, encompassing themes of beauty, eccentricity, and tragedy, while the arrangements are meticulously crafted to evoke a broad spectrum of emotions. The band's music not only inspires with its uplifting and empowering messages but also demonstrates their versatility. 

Having performed alongside prominent artists such as The Black Keys, George Clinton & The Parliament Funkadelic, Trombone Shorty, Vieux Farka Toure, and Allen Stone, this ensemble is advancing contemporary music while paying homage to the genre's influential predecessors.
